The bed and bathroom of our 4 poster bedroom were clean which was good but the carpet hadn t been hoovered there were bits all over it and you could see the dust in the corners. There were bits of confetti even. There were cobwebs hanging down from the 4 poster bed. The pleated valance on the bed was full of dust. The chairs were very stained and the buttons at the back were full of dust.
The housekeeping staff were clearly overstretched as our room wasn t attended to until well after 5 one day.
The common areas were also unclean - carpets that hadn t been hoovered and had the same bits on them after our 3 night stay. The common doors needed cleaning where hands touch them.
The spa is very tired and definitely not what I was expecting. The swimming pool was full of young kids .. not very spa like. For our Serail mud treatment we had our time moved back half an hour which wasn t ideal. When we arrived the reception staff didn t have towels ready, didn t give us robes, basically didn t know much. When we shown to the cubicle although we were told how to use it, we could have done with a much better explanation as there s no way of knowing how the time is elapsing, how to apply the mud etc.
We asked at reception if they could advise on local walks. One person rustled around and found the walk around the hotel. She also said it was possible to walk to Anglesey Abbey but she didn t know the way.
The hotel was just very tired , the bar area was very unwelcoming. There was a huge stain on the carpet. There were outside tables just plonked looking very sad.
The location near to Cambridge is good but it s very close to the dual carriageway and you can hear the road noise.
Even the drive into the hotel was full of advertising posters for entertainment which I knew wouldn t be associated with a luxury hotel, which it definitely isn t.
