Lovely stay but the spa let it down big time

This is our fourth visit to Lions Quays Hotel and Spa. On this visit our room was lovely and on the second floor. Clean and nice bed. Pillows were very weird indeed. Totally flat. I had to use the cushion off the bed under the pillows as they were so flat. The food in the restaurant and the staff in the restaurant were excellent. I am gluten free and dairy free and they knew exactly what I could and could not eat. Lovely breakfast and beautiful evening meal too. Highly recommend the restaurant. The reception staff were ok - a little bit robotic - no information given regarding where to go for the Spa or what time meals were served etc so very basic in that respect. When we went to the spa one of the large steam rooms was out of order. Nearly every locker in the spa changing room was broken so it took ages to sort that out. On our second day we had to use the changing rooms in the leisure centre. It was disgusting. The floor was really dirty. Hairdryers did not work. Lockers did not work (again). Spa staff were very few and fair between and kept us waiting for ages (about 20 minutes). Did not have any treatments so cannot comment on that. The showers in the pool and spa area were broken except for one. So all the sweaty bodies were in and out of the saunas and steam rooms and straight into the pool, even though most of them headed for the showers first. It made it feel dirty and disgusting. A great let down. We did have a nice weekend but would certainly consider finding another hotel and spa for our next visit. It's so sad that this one is totally neglected as that is what many people make the visit for.
