We had an excellent stay and are so glad efforts were made to restore this fantastic castle from it's unfortunate past. Later made into a hotel for so many to enjoy.
The castle must be difficult to maintain due to the skills needed for specialist repairs, such as gothic stone windows, but it didn't detract from how great the castle structure was. The bathrooms in the castle rooms were rather dated but I feel it got away with it a bit, given that alot of the building was centuries older still.
The highlights were the the views from the castle roof, the amazing food in the restaurant and a great level of service rarely found these days. The owner is from the US which may explain the excellent approach to service.
The nearby Hexham Abbey is a great visit if you like your history, with its 7th century crypt built using Roman ruin stone.
