"Overnight stay"
TR, Essex, stayed: August 2026
Lovely hotel stayed here before. The service this time was very poor and spoilt the experience. They were very busy and probably not enough staff. Ordered our first drinks on the outside terrace which took 40 minutes to arrive, the were only two of us and they forgot my drink so waited a further 10 minutes. Decided to go to the bar inside for our second drink which took just as long. Ask the bar person if ok to leave drinks on bar whilst we when outside for five minutes and when we returned they had thrown our drinks away! lack of communication between staff I think. Evening meal main was fabulous. Didn t enjoy starters and desert we ended up asking for fruit.

Anon, stayed: August 2026 On arrival the staff were lovely, there are no lifts but we were offered for our luggage to be taken upstairs. In the bedroom we had a lovely bottle of sparkling wine and a little dessert to share. For what we paid for each night I thought we would have got this every day but we didn't. The pillows and bed was not as comfortable as we would have expected. The shower was not very clean, again for a luxury stay we were disappointed in this. However we did enjoy our stay as it was the first time we had been away for a few years after having looked after my mum who passed away last year.

Anon, stayed: August 2026 This is our 4th visit to Down Hall. We were upgraded to a prestige room which was lovely. It was very hot weather and the room was very warm but we did have 2 fans. Overall ,a lovely experience, food ,drink ,service ,particularly Nicholas in the restaurant !We love staying here and will come again!
