Disappointing Stay

The good points are the lovely old building and spacious public rooms. Our superior room large and quite comfortable but wasn't the cleanest. We also had a couple of issues with plumbing, both of which should have been picked up before we arrived. Our main disappointment was that the restaurant was only open for breakfast, dinner being served in the local pub, down a lane in pitch darkness and the rain and being greeted there with the news that the restaurant was not open and we would have to eat in the bar! The quality of breakfast was patchy, the "full English" was fine but the Eggs Benedict was poor, the muffin being inedible. There is no on-site presence by staff after 10:00pm. We had expected better and it seems that the hotel standards are declining from their previous high regard.
Chateau La Chaire Hotel says:
During the off-peak season we do close our fine dining facilities within the main hotel due to low demand.
We are sorry to hear that your stay with us did not meet your expectation as we strive to make every stay with us a memorable experience. As a Grade 2 listed country house and not a purpose built hotel there are a few minor quirks such as the taps in this bathroom, as you know they do work perfectly well but just need some extra turns to increase pressure. I understand this might be a little frustrating but it's just part of the charm of an old house.
I was disappointed to hear about your experience with our Rozel Restaurant. This facility is normally very popular with high occupancy but when there is a low number of bookings we will close part of the dining area to ensure atmosphere and a higher-quality service, however this should have been better communicated at the time and I apologise for this shortfall.
We strive to offer a high-quality breakfast service at the hotel and have always been highly complimented in this area so I am sorry this was not the case for you. We will look into this also and provide further training if required to ensure we are giving all our customers the usual great breakfast experience.
Regarding late night staff, again during the off-peak winter season we do not have a member of staff on shift in the building overnight however we do always have a duty manager on call at the property 24 hours. For service elements each room is complete with drinks and snacks within the mini bar and an honesty bar is also available in the lounge if preferred.
Please accept my apologies for any shortfall on this occasion. If yourself or agent would like to contact the manager direct for a future visit I would be glad to assist with the reservation.
