The White Horse hotel is on the main high Street of Dorking which is a very pleasant old town. It's full of beautiful antique shops, and very nice cafes.
I arrived slightly early at the hotel, and they were able to get me checked in despite it being before check-in time. I really appreciated this and was able to freshen up before going out to meets my mum.
We were visiting the hotel to check it out for a future family gathering, and the hotel was just what we needed. The off-peak luxury stay meant that we got our bedroom, dinner, and breakfast as an excellent rate.
Although the service was a little slow in places, including the bar and that reception desk, everyone was very pleasant and helpful. The room was well appointed, with some lovely little treats, tea and coffee, a hair dryer, and everything else you might need. This included a portable air conditioning unit which was very much appreciated as we visited during some very high temperatures.
We had an excellent evening meal in the hotel restaurant.
The rooms and bed were comfortable, though. Unfortunately we were woken up around 6:00 by staff moving what were either really bins, or cages of laundry around the car park outside. It was quite noisy, and the staff were chattering away and having a lovely time. I don't begrudge them that but I could have done with a little bit more sleep!
Breakfast in the morning was nice. The service was again a little bit slow, and we were a little bit disappointed to find. There was no buffet option for cold items, it was all made to order. I appreciate that is likely to be more economical, but it did slow things down and also limit choice a little bit.
Overall it was an excellent stay, at a very good price at a lovely hotel and we will be coming back.
