As part of our 50th wedding anniversary celebrations, my wife and I chose to return to one of our favourite hotels Skipton Hotel (formerly The Rendezvous). Unfortunately, our experience this time was disappointing from the moment we arrived.
Upon check-in, we were given the key card for Room 107. When we entered the room, we were shocked to find that it was already occupied by another couple who had clearly been assigned the same room. This was incredibly embarrassing and uncomfortable for everyone involved. We returned to reception and were given a new room Room 210.
However, when we reached Room 210, the key wouldn t work. My wife returned to reception and was given another card. That key also failed. After a third trip back to reception, she received yet another key, which also didn t work. At that point, I took over and spoke to the second receptionist, who kindly accompanied me to the room. We finally gained access, and I went to collect my wife from the bar, where she had been waiting. The receptionist commented, This happens all the time, which only added to our frustration.
Although this was not the welcome we had hoped for, we decided to move on and enjoy our evening meal, trusting it would be of the same high standard we ve experienced before. Sadly, this wasn t the case.
The prawn cocktail starter was very dry, with barely any sauce quite underwhelming. I tried to overlook this and looked forward to my main course: a steak priced at 26. Having enjoyed it on previous visits, I expected a similar experience. I ordered it medium rare, but it arrived completely overcooked burnt, in fact. I raised this with two members of staff, who apologised but offered no resolution. My wife ordered the pork medallions, which were also dry and disappointing.
We decided to forgo dessert and spent the rest of the evening in the bar. I voiced my concerns again on the way out, but by that point, the evening had already been soured.
On a positive note, the breakfast and the staff serving it were excellent, and we appreciated that. However, the overall experience has left us with great disappointment, especially as it was meant to be a celebration of a special milestone in our lives.
Regrettably, this experience has made us reconsider whether we would choose to stay with you again in the futur
