We had a lovely stay at South Lodge. The new Spa is beautiful. There are still a few bits of finishing needed but this was to be expected as it was the opening weekend for the spa.
The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. But the bathroom was in need of modernisation and there was a leak in the roof which resulted in a few drips on the head waking us up in the morning.
The restaurant was Ok. Food was lovely, but it lacked atmosphere with no music in the restaurant or bar area. We also felt a bit rushed-they were very keen to get us from the bar into the restaurant.
As part of the package we had booked, there was a credit included to spend in the wine cellar and this was the most disappointing part of our stay.
We were escorted down to the wine cellar only to find it hadn t been cleared from an earlier tasting session so the table was full of half eaten food and wines. The red wine part of the wine vending machine was out of action and we waited 15 mins for someone to come and sort it out before leaving as we had a dinner reservation soon after. So this was obviously disappointing, although we were able to spend the credit on wine in the bar.
Overall it was a lovely night away, but I think for the price of a stay here, I was expecting a bit more. We have stayed at sister hotel Pennyhill Park several times and I think i would go back there for future stays.
