I booked two rooms under the "Romantic Lazy Break - Superior Triple Sea View Room" on behalf of my wife and I and two friends. We were allocated to the wrong rooms on arrival, i.e. ground floor double rooms overlooking the car park. Although we were then moved to the correct rooms, at first floor level, no apology or offer of assistance to move luggage was made.
Both rooms, which were next to each other, had "blown" windows, meaning they were "foggy" thereby restricting the view out. One of the wardrobe doors in each room was difficult to slide and had to be lifted to be moved. Otherwise, the bed was comfortable and the shower good.
The restaurant was more brasserie style than luxury and felt like that which would be found in an airport hotel. The food was, however, generally good and the staff efficient and friendly.
Checkout was an absolute shambles. We had put all expenditure onto one room for ease. Initially I was not offered sight of an invoice and merely asked to pay for extras amounting to something just shy of 400. I asked if that amount included the 25% discount from the wine we had which then set of a chain of events which took over an hour to resolve. The discount had not been allowed, nor had the 70 allocation per room for dinner. The Receptionist, who was as helpful as she could be, ended up having to extrapolate all the drinks we had from the food bill as she was unable to reconcile the latter. We eventually agreed the drinks bill, for which I paid but then had to wait for the arrival of a manager/supervisor to address the food costs (apparently there was no manager on duty at the time and they were not due to arrive until around 10:30am). In the meantime, we had obtained a copy of the menu from the restaurant and worked out that the total food cost incurred was within the 140 overall allowance. The supervisor still tried to suggest we owed money, presumably in respect of the service charge added to the restaurant bill, but eventually agreed to waive any additional amount on account of the difficulties we had experienced at checkout.
We would certainly NOT describe this hotel as "luxury". There are many unsightly scuffs on walls in the public areas, which would benefit substantially from effective maintenance. Many of the chairs, both in the bar/lounge area and restaurant, have quite badly worn fabric. These issues, together with those encountered in the room(s) negatively affect the impression of the hotel and suggest it is anything other than luxury.
