I booked the hotel for a romantic weekend break for my partner s birthday. Overall we enjoyed the stay but there were the following issues:
- given a 3 course meal was included there were minimal choices that came under this. The majority of dishes were available at a supplement and ALL accompaniments (veg) came at an extra cost.
- there is another menu available to chose from so you can eat in the bar area but nobody told us this until one of the waiters overhead me query the different meal choices on our second night. I think reception should explain this on check in or certainly the restaurant staff should.
- food in the restaurant was not hot. I didn t like to complain on the 1st night as the stay was booked as a gift. However on the 2nd night I did , whilst the price of that dish was removed from the bill it spoilt the meal as my partner and I ended up eating separately.
- on the last morning we requested poached eggs - we waited over 50mins and chased staff up multiple times. The service in the breakfast room was not great. One of the managers offered us a complimentary afternoon tea on a return trip but this wasn t much use to us as we live over 100 miles away ..
The hotel is quite a way out. We wouldn t return here as I think there are better hotels for the money
