History of the hotel
This magnificent brick and stucco Italianate building was said to be the first skyscraper of its time, and you'll be following in the footsteps of some rather famous guests with a stay here. Since opening in 1860, it's hosted none other than Charles Dickens, Cecil Rhodes and Lillie Langtry, to name but a few.
