Nice rustic hotel but badly let down by the breakfast offering

We stayed for 2 nights and had 1 dinner and 2 breakfasts in the hotel restaurant.
The hotel was rustic with a lot of character but was a bit tired in places.
The dinner we had was ok but the breakfast on BOTH mornings was very poor. The cold buffet choice was restricted to cereals and some tinned or a little chopped fresh fruit and almost everything on the hot buffet was dried out and unappetising. There were a few tour groups in for breakfast an hour before us and I got the impression that we were getting what was left over after them and that nothing had been refreshed e.g. the bacon was hard and the black pudding was solid. We tried some of the freshly prepared specials from the menu and they were also disappointing e.g. the scrambled egg tasted reconstituted and had a strange flavour.
We did complain about the breakfast to reception on our departure and the lady apologised and promised to raise our complaint at a management meeting scheduled for later that morning.
