Enjoyable overnight stay for the Harrogate Flower Show

I ve stayed at The Old Swan hotel before, so I know that this is a lovely hotel close to everything, but away from traffic or other noise. It stands in large, well maintained gardens. Our room was comfortable and clean with everything we needed, comfy beds and very quiet overnight. If you arrive early you can park up and buy the 10 parking permit from reception, check in is at 3pm.
Only two minor issues that the hotel should take note of:
We booked a twin, but on entering our room the two beds were together, even though made up with single bedding. We are friends and expected separated beds. The guy on reception told me to move them apart, but then followed up quickly by saying he would come up and do it for us. Guests should not be expected to start moving furniture! The room, with one headboard, was better designed for one bed than two separate beds, although I appreciate the rooms are described as zip and link.
Be aware that the hotel add a 10% service charge to food and drinks at dinner in the restaurant. Even if you ve bought a bb&d and paid in advance, you will be asked to sign before you leave the restaurant. You will be signing for a service charge, this will be on the whole prepaid amount for dinner (and extras if you added drinks etc)! You are at liberty to remove it, don t be embarrassed , service charge should be discretionary. There is a sign on reception that says they add 10% to any food and drinks purchased to save customer embarrassment as they are a cashless hotel.
We would definitely stay at the hotel again. The above comments did not impact our stay at all, just for info.
