History of the hotel
The mission was clear, to create an iconic landmark that would strikingly marry Birmingham's industrial heritage with a vision of the future. Award-winning architect Ken Shuttleworth was chosen for the project, whose world-class portfolio includes The Gherkin and Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok Airport. Taking inspiration from the city's jewellery making tradition, his vision for The Cube was to create "an enchanting jewellery box" rich with light and intricate gold and bronze geometric shapes. Mission accomplished.
