The hotel has 6 Superior rooms and 1 Deluxe Suite which can sleep between 3-5 people: Cots and extra beds are available upon request. A charge of £30.00 applies per night for an extra bed or cot for a child. This includes a full Scottish breakfast.
The grounds
Melville Castle is set within 54 acres of enchanting grounds.
History of the hotel
The present structure dates back to 1786, built by James Playfair for Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville. Visitors to the castle include George IV, Sir Walter Scott and Queen Victoria. The castle is reputedly haunted by the spirit of possibly Elizabeth Rennie, or perhaps another spectre of Mary, Queen of Scots.
Dogs Policy
A supplement of £20.00 per dog per night applies. Up to two well-behaved pups are welcome to stay. All rooms are dog friendly.
Dogs are not permitted in the main restaurant however there is a room adjacent to the restaurant where you can dine with your dog.
Upon arrival to the castle, your hound will receive a comfy doggy bed for use during their stay, special treats, a hound bag tote filled with useful accessories for your stay, including a tennis ball, waste bags, dog treats and a walking map featuring routes local to the hotel.
The hotel even serves a doggy afternoon tea (£10.50 per pup, must be booked in advance)
