The hotel is situated in a very pretty village with views of a historic bridge and possible walks. We received a very friendly welcome and were delighted to be upgraded to a room where the young Queen Victoria had slept. The room was spacious and had a wonderful bathroom. In the lounge was a log fire and was very tastefully wonderful place to relax.
The Kitchen Restaurant was pleasant, the staff were very helpful but the downside was that we chose from the set menu and it was disappointing. The main course, Ox Cheek, which was the only meat was so salty that it masked any flavours and left us very thirsty all night.
Breakfast just average. I feel that my English breakfast was not freshly cooked . The toast was delightful the best I have had in a hotel. Because the hotel was such an interesting building we did enjoy our stay but feel the dining aspect let it down.
