History of the hotel
Built in the 1830's as a private house and originally known as Westfield house. The now Abbot's Barton Hotel was a private residence until WW1 and then made available by Francis Bennett-Goldney's family to the Voluntary Aid Detachment as a hospital for wounded troops.
Abbot's Barton House then became the AB Hotel just after WW2 when, in 1949, the licence from the "Royal Fountain Hotel" (destroyed in the 1942 Baedeker Raids) was transferred by the Licensing Committee.
Huge investment has resulted in the total refurbishment and re-opening of one of Canterbury's best-known hotels.
The hotel has lost none of its style and charm. If anything, the homely atmosphere has only improved with age!
Dogs Policy
Dogs are welcome in selected Executive Doubles and Standard Double rooms for a small charge of £20 per dog per night, please contact us if a dog friendly room is required.
Please note that dogs are not permitted in Suites.
All dogs will receive a comfortable bed, bowl and a warm welcome.
