Rather lack lustre

Booked 2 rooms as a gift and to celebrate my dad s milestone birthday.
Not quite sure that this is a luxury hotel.
Poor communication as called the hotels reservation team to advise it was a celebration and to book spa. I was told that we didn t need to give an exact time slot for spa and we were already booked.
First impressions of hotel not great. Wasn t a very pretty building and the small, scruffy reception smelt of fish. Rooms looked more standard than Superior and no chilled Prosecco as per package. I went to reception and they said they would contact the bar to send the Prosecco and confirmed that we were I the superior rooms. I also said that I d advised it was my dads birthday but there was not much of a response.
Ice buckets arrived but when I checked , it was not prosseco but sparking wine. Again I went to reception and reported that my parents room was also missing a few other things,
We decided to have a look round and found the spa where luckily I mentioned that we were on a package and that I d spoken to booking team. Good job as you do have to book and they were fully booked the next day when we d planned to use the thermal suite. We had to rush back to our rooms and change as the only other slot we could do was in 15 minutes. Given robes, towels and flip flops to use along which were presented sry nicely but again thermal suite wasn t to a fantastic standard. Sauna not working, jets in pool not working and missing tiles in foot spas. Dinner was lovely so credit where it s due and breakfast the next morning was also good. However on the second more it was extremely busy and service not as good. Felt like it was an inconvenience when I asked for a hot chocolate because the machine wasn t working.
We enjoyed our time away but feel very let down by unfulfilled promise of a luxury break for a special occasion.
