Enjoyed our trip Helpful staff One room was lovely and would have got excellent but we had to change rooms Which we were aware of Food was fantastic but for a 3 night stay with one vegetarian option that was a big disappointment. That reduced the rating from excellent to good.

"Relaxing, friendly hotel with gourmet food"

Bedroom number 1 was tired and the the taster menu was disappointing in comparison to the menus on the other two evenings. COVID regulations made the experience less friendly than we would expect in normal times.

"Not up to expectations!"

The hotel had been on our radar for some time, so we were delighted to find rooms available for a birthday celebration. Regrettably, the experience, although enjoyable, did not live up to expectations. The best way to describe our welcome was 'cautious', punctuated with offers to use the hand gel and misinformation about how long we were staying for. The hotel had a wedding booked for the evening and, inevitably, we felt like second-rate guests, being advised to 'get to breakfast early' if we wanted a seat by the window. Our room was disappointing. We had booked a deluxe room in the Coach House and had anticipated a view. Our only view was over a courtyard with a linen room whose doors were open for most of the daytime hours, displaying bedding and towels. We had to keep the curtains drawn for privacy. The bathroom was delightful although the shower was unpredictable and it was virtually impossible to prevent the rain shower and hand shower operating together. The food was good, but the service was so fast that we had to ask for time to breathe after our main course. Our bill was placed under our door and extras taken from our credit card, so there was no opportunity to discuss our stay with reception staff. The walk from our room, to the main building, was unwelcome, as it was cold and wet. I am sure, had we visited in the summer, and had there been no wedding taking place, that our experience might have been different; however, this did not feel like a luxurious stay and we did not feel at all like cherished guests. Sadly, disappointing!

"Lovely stay in a lovely spot"

Really enjoyed our stay, staff excellent in difficult pandemic circumstances. Good food and wine, efficient, friendly service, restaurant room lacks a bit in atmosphere but does have a lovely view. Rooms and public areas all clean and comfortable. Overall, a nice place for a break away from it all.
