"A pity - it could be so much better"

An interesting location and outwardly an attractive hotel spoilt by the condition of the bedroom. Clearly it has seen better days and needs some renovation.

We enjoyed our stay away, however we had paid for a bottle of champagne as part of our package

"A mixed bag"

A picturesque riverside location. Upon arrival told that they were not expecting us to have two dogs despite it being on our booking. Room 8 was hastily offered in the cottages, first impressions were mixed. Room was clean but not prepared to an high standard. Used loo roll, broken glass in one window, cobwebs on windows ok if you like spiders for house guests! stained chair, tv and phone not working, loose handle on the toilet flush, only one biscuit which was not replenished, Told that Sunday roast finished at 4 despite it saying that the menu for Sunday was the roast only. Eventually one roast pork was found. Restaurant manager was very good and my steak was excellent. The breakfast on Monday was good, cooked to order. However on Monday evening the food was poor, my steak was tough and almost inedible, staff were rushed did not pay attention service very slow and inconsistent. The lemon tart was dreadful and we left it uneaten, the tv and phone were not fixed despite repeated requests, Breakfast on Tuesday was buffet style, I think the scrambled eggs were anaemic or made with powdered eggs, food was lukewarm. No plain yoghurt only flavoured ones full of additives. Lukewarm coffee served in a tea pot! Asked for poached eggs which were undercooked swimming in water. Manager discounted our drinks as compensation upon checkout. I had the impression that it was a wedding venue hotel or was used to park the car as the planes were landing and taking off from the East Midland airport only a few minutes away with the accompanying aircraft noise. So I would not rate this as a luxury hotel, it has potential but I won t be returning soon.
