Set in its own secluded, twenty-acre estate of beautiful landscaped gardens, woodland and meadow, and with stunning views overlooking Lake Windermere, it's hard to resist a relaxing Lake District break at Merewood. As soon as you step through the front door of this beautiful country house, you'll discover an oasis of comfort, warmth and relaxation.
History of the hotel
Merewood was built in 1812 for the son of the 1st Earl of Lonsdale with stone quarried in the hotel grounds. You will still find many of the original features around the house today, including the beautifully panelled hall and reception, pretty stained glass windows, magnificent fireplaces and a silk-lined drawing room.
Merewood are proud to be a dog friendly hotel - four legged friends are just as important to us as two legged guests.
As a house guest you are welcome to stay in all the bedrooms. On arrival you will find a lovely soft cosy blanket for you to lay on, a water bowl, some scrummy biscuit treats to munch and a juicy bone to chew.
Dogs are welcome throughout the hotel, except in the restaurant. If you'd like to dine with your dog, the hotel are happy to set up a table in the lounge.
Being in the Lake District there are walks galore to choose from - whether you enjoy a stroll on the lake shore or prefer a more energetic romp up the fells, you won't be disappointed.
There is a one-off payment of £20 for any furry friends.
