Merewood was built in 1812 for the son of the 1st Earl of Lonsdale with stone quarried in the hotel grounds. You will still find many of the original features around the house today, including the beautifully panelled hall and reception, pretty stained glass windows, magnificent fireplaces and a silk-lined drawing room. Bedrooms are on the first and second floors, there is no lift and none of the bathrooms have hand rails etc for less able bodied guests.
There are 93 steps leading up to the hotel from road level. There is a handrail at one side. The climb can be avoided by parking directly outside the hotel. There is 1 step leading into the porch of the main entrance and a further 2 steps from the porch to the reception area. Wheelchair ramps can be requested to assist access.
Child Policy
Cots for children up to two years old are free of charge. Children sharing with parents @ £30.00 per night bed and breakfast (age 2-12 years old).

Dogs Policy
Merewood are proud to be a dog friendly hotel - four legged friends are just as important as two legged guests.
As a house guest you are welcome to stay in all the bedrooms. On arrival you will find a lovely soft cosy blanket for you to lay on, a water bowl, some scrummy biscuit treats to munch and a juicy bone to chew.
Dogs are welcome throughout the hotel, except in the restaurant. If you'd like to dine with your dog, the hotel are happy to set up a table in the lounge.
Being in the Lake District there are walks galore to choose from - whether you enjoy a stroll on the lake shore or prefer a more energetic romp up the fells, you won't be disappointed.
There is a one-off payment of £20 for any furry friends.
