We stayed for a romantic break in this genuine medieval castle.Converted into a hotel in 1986 it is still privately owned and feels genuine rather than Disneyesque. Our four poster room could not be faulted. The shower was big enough for 4 people (no bath). The view and gardens are immaculate. We did not sign for anything, drinks food etc which made us feel as though we were staying in a friend s private castle (we should be so lucky). And at the end the bill was exactly correct.
The only let down was that after a superb meal the first night my wife s halibut the second night was a tail end that was hard around the edges. Service at breakfast was very slow with 20 mins wait for tea and coffee which arrived after toast and cereals (in that order).
Apart from this the staff were friendly and efficient.
Great location, lovely room nice ambience good value and impeccably clean.
Free guided tour of the castle.
