The grounds

The most striking feature within the grounds is the avenue of lime trees. Planted circa 1716 as a 19th century gentlemen's vista rather than as an entrance way, the avenue is the longest line of limes in England. Walk to the far end and find a special 25 foot silver birch planted in 2006 commemorating the 25th Anniversary of Exclusive Hotels and Venues. Take a seat on the specially commissioned arched seating surrounding the tree, admiring the view back up the avenue to the beautiful William and Mary house.

History of the hotel

Dating back to the late 17th century, this divine country house hotel in Hampshire is noteworthy for several reasons throughout history. The house may date back to the 17th century, however the foundations show evidence of an earlier medieval dwelling. The chapel in the grounds dates from the 12th or 13th century and was a valuable asset.

The name Lainston derives from Leofwines'tun. Tun means enclosure and Leofwine was a popular name, Leof meaning 'one who is dear' and wine meaning 'a friend'. Leynestone which means 'farm of the great field' has evolved over the centuries with various spellings.

Dogs Policy

Dogs are accepted and should not be left unattended in rooms. A normal charge is made of £30 per stay, selected rooms available. Regrettably dogs are not allowed in any of the public rooms except the Cedar Bar and terrace, with the exception of guide dogs. They will be happy to organise to walk your dog if you require
