Farthings hotel is a small country hotel in the middle of Somerset near Taunton. It's peaceful, quiet and pleasant. The staff were all extremely nice, friendly and attentive. Breakfast was outstanding and dinner excellent - a real gourmet experience.

Tucked away just off the main through road a real find. Friendly reception, no lift to upper floor bedrooms which are wonderful. Large plenty of nostalgia furniture, our room had a spiral stair upto the on-suite with a nightlight to see the way. Quiet and with a sofa to look out, some rooms get to look over beautiful well kept gardens.

Service in the restaurant, especially at breakfast, was somewhat 'hit and miss'. After serving the main meal, staff tended to disappear into the kitchen and did not come out often enough to check on their guest's further requests/requirements.

Room decor was dated and had water stains down two walls. Some windows painted shut, most fire doors wedged open on staircase. Had to look for staff on two occasions including checking in. Asked for full card details for extras, which was not a problem, but the information just left in a basket under the bar that everybody had access. Asked about the evening menu at breakfast and was told it was not available until 4pm. Breakfast very over cooked and all the hipe of local produce lost as it tasted burnt. Checked out after one night and did not stay for the paid second night.
