Anon, stayed: February 2025

Beautiful though tired building. Staff polite. Restaurant food good but poorly managed. Ran out of kippers, yoghurt on two consecutive mornings and potatoes one evening! 20 mins to supermarket so no excuse. Room tired, damage to carpet and furniture but inexcusable how filthy the windows were. What could have been a good stay ruined by poor management.

Sadly, the room we stayed in (Stable Double) did not match the description at all. The bathroom fittings were more akin to a Premier Inn. The room had mismatched and shabby furniture, stains on the carpet, dirty net curtains, cobwebs in multiple places, dirty radiator, rip in bed base, old and flat pillows and the kettle was full of rust and scale/scum. The hotel is in a state of general disrepair with large cracks in ceilings and walls, period features that have been painted too many times without being stripped back, dirty curtains and cobwebs in the restaurant and mismatched glassware/cutlery. This is far from the luxury getaway portrayed in pictures and descriptions. Food was generally okay but hit and miss - some dishes very good and others not. Tried to complain at the time but calls to reception and night porter went unanswered. Complained to the hotel manager (with photo evidence) and have still heard nothing back (or had an acknowledgement) a week later. Do not recommend - highly disappointing.
