The lack of vegetarian options was disappointing
stayed: September 2024
The hotel was impressive from the outside and nice enough from the inside - traditional but well maintained and clean.
Most of the staff were pleasant throughout and clearly trying their best.
My frustration is that my wife (whose 40th birthday it was) and kids are vegetarian.
We advised Off Peak Luxury of this, and it was noted on the Dalhousie system at check in.
As we have a young family, we had been advised we could not eat at the Dungeon restaurant.
However, when we got there, the Dalhousie team said that we could, and that is where our booking was. We explained that 5 course taster menu would not be optimal given that our kids are young.
They were simply unable to process that the agreed dining voucher would be transferred to the Orangery. After several further explanations of the situation to different staff member, we went to the Orangery, to find no consideration for vegetarian food had been made. i.e. 'you can get the bruschetta and we won't give you the ham'.
This was frustrating and definitely took the shine off the whol experience.
There some other niggles, but this was the main one - if we tell you in advance that we are vegetarian, please consider this in the menu and do not ignore the request.
The hotel is clearly not cheap and this was disappointing.
