"Never Again"

Lovely place, OK food, OK rooms, but the driver's attitude to my disabled father, even after I (very embarrassingly) had to explain the ins and outs of my father's dementia, in front of my father, to the aggressive, unpleasant driver, is an experience which reduced me to tears and which I will never forget. I should add that the Transport Manager apologised profusely, but sadly the damage was already done.

"The management and most staff were generally complacent."

Fantastic special location. An excellent welcome from Simon unfortunately the other staff did not live up to the build up he gave. The general feeling was that the management and staff were complacent and living solely on the unique location in South Devon. A dietary requirement threw them into disarray with limited menu choice. (Known about at the time of booking) Staff members smoking cigars outside open dining room doors was probably the final straw and showed disregard to guests

Stunning Island location. Beautiful views and walks. Hotel: Art Deco ambience. Tired & flaking plaster and paint, poor condition decoration and furniture in room. Old does not have to be worn out and broken. Needs refurb. Not fine dining, food just ok. Staff were attentive and friendly. Overcharging greatly for a simple bottle of beer or bottled water is a poor show and does not leave a good impression. Overhead showers were around in the deco period but not here. Internet was good but only a radio provided that did not work very well. I believe there is an intention to refurbish the hotel further, it badly needs this to be done before charging five star prices for a three star.

"Disappointing"

We booked the hotel for my wife's 50th Birthday, after ten year's of waiting (wanting). The hotel was fantastic, style location, feel, but was very let down by small but numerous faults many times. On 3 occasions we ordered drinks (first day) to be told not available. This continued during the 3days we were there. Wait times for drinks and all meals was painfully slow. We would like to stay again but only if improvements are made.
