Unfortunately for an expensive hotel approx 430 per night DBB - this was not good value. Our room was not warm as the heating did not seem to work - so we asked for a heater, which came but was absolutely filthy, and none seemed interested. ! Also the brasserie was very much just ok, - not great food and very expensive wine !

I was really looking forward to my stay at Bovey Castle, but when I arrived at my room it was instant disappointment for me. I looked outside the window and could only see a small amount of the courtyard that I was advised I would see. Instead I had a much clearer view of a massive boiler flue and I was also lucky enough to have the rumbling sound that goes with it. I'm a light sleeper so because of this I actually slept better when I stayed at a Premier Inn a few nights before. The staff were unwilling/unable to us to a new room after reporting this issue.

We stayed 3 nights here and enjoyed the visit. Spa treatment was relaxing and staff very friendly and helpful. Food was good and the room was a decent size with a lovely well maintained large bathroom. Tv reception was intermittent at times and a power cut during the storm was unexpected! However we would recommend Bovey Castle as a place to stay on Dartmoor.

Hotel had a boiler problem, so could smell oil for our 2 days stay. Had to keep windows closed for duration of our stay, so very hot in our room.

Excellent staff on the whole though I was put off at the start when I had just arrived after a 30 minute detour to get to the hotel due to road works. The main problem was that I was following the hotel instructions but had to turn back as the road was blocked and there were no diversion signs. When I mentioned this at the desk I was told that there were notices put up on the website. This was really a bit dull by the lady concerned and could easily have been avoid by letting me know in one of the MANY e-mails I'd had concerning my stay.
