The location is magnificent and because of that I feel the standard of the rooms and spa needs some refurbishing. It looks a bit tired. We had water dripping in our bathroom coming thru the light which shows there is some real maintenance to be done. Having said that, I was offered a discount which helped me appreciate the stay more. It showed good willingness. The food standard was okay, not to the level of a 5 star. I do think it could be much better.

I have to say I was disappointed, I wanted to treat my husband for his 75 th birthday, as he had spent many months caring for me following an illness. The greeting from reception was great, the room was lovely, grounds beautiful and we were we saw the price of the drinks!! It was a joke, and the waiter tried to charge us for two glasses of champagne and two gin and tonics although we had only had one of each, and when I pointed this out the air became decidedly frosty!! Dinner was good, but not amazing for the price. Although your booking confirmation said my break had been paid in full I was presented with a bill for approximately £66 the next morning, for our rather expensive drinks, plus a service charge for both the bedroom and restaraunt for 2 half days!! I began to be afraid to sneeze in case it cost me more money!

Wonderful hotel - beautiful and luxurious. Fabulous lounges, breakfast, and grounds. Such a shame the customer service did not live up to expectations - they never pre-empted our needs, long delays in restaurant and items often forgotten, drinks at bar took ages, reception staff not very welcoming or friendly. You would expect the service to suit the hotel and location, because it didn't we would not return.

Only stayed one night on our way home from Cornwall but wished it had been more. Hotel stylish, fantastic location, staff excellent, food delicious, room comfortable, grounds are beautiful and had a refreshing dip in the lovely pool. Well done OPL for adding it to your list.

Well the location is perfect, quiet location and wonderful views with a great looking golf course. The staff were extremely helpful and the hotel itself had a great ambience. Now for the bad news... Our first dinner was held in the main restaurant and the food was just amazing but extremely expensive... So for the remaining 3 nights of our stay we decided to use the brasserie. WRONG ! The food was dreadful ! There isn't enough space here to describe the food and the attitude of the chef was as if he really couldn't care if you asked for something a little bit different from the menu. On our last night the food was so poor we asked to speak to the the head of the restaurant who in fairness to him gave us our whole meal for free. If you have drinks with your meal expect to pay over £100 per meal for 2. They have a captured audience as there are no other restaurants close by for you to go to. For what it costs unfortunately I wouldn't go there again. The restaurant manager did explain the brasserie had only just opened and the staff were new! As a few examples, the meat fishers were very dry, fish was undercooked and had to be returned, the prawn cocktail was a joke huge amount swimming in its juices. We NEVER complain but the food was so bad we had no choice especially as the meals were very expensive.
