"Disappointing special offer"

So much went wrong! We were not told the hotel is being refurbished and we were allocated room 47 with its window covered in scaffolding, from where workers outside could wave to us in the room. The valet parking put our new car right beside a skip into which builders' rubbish was being thrown from the extensive scaffolding above. Our 'replacement' room 28 had no heating, the continental quilt was far too small for the bed, and we were then provided with an inadequate electric heater - so a cold night indeed! For £498 (including half board) it was awful value and disappointing - partly because the duty and general managers were relatively unhelpful about the succession of problems we had!

The only criticism is that due to the position of our room, there was a lot of noise due a) renovation work being carried out to one of the ground floor reception rooms and b) staff setting up the restaurant, which was next to our room. However, this did not take away from a fabulous break and a much needed oasis of calm and luxury, in no small part due to the wonderful staff, we will return as soon as we can.

Lovely welcoming hotel, beautifully decorated throughout. Fanstastic room with lovely bathroom and very comfortable bed. Price of drinks, other than the wine, in the bar seem unnecessarily high for a Devon hotel which is disappointing, but food and wine in the dining areas are priced normally and fairly. We have become leisure members as the facilities are excellent. But we must remember to avoid the bar drinks!
