We had a very relaxing break, the staff were lovely and the log fires were so welcoming. The whole place was clean, tidy and seemed to run smoothly. They were just starting to put up the Xmas decorations when we left. I'm sure it will look lovely when festive.

The hotel itself is good. Our room was clean and comfortable, except for small bits of raw meat by the bed. Most of the staff were exceptionally helpful. Reception staff need to be more confident when residents arrive. Some of the younger servers need immediate training as we just got grunts or no response both at dinner and breakfast. I was served raw hake - still bloody - which smelled bad. I spat it out. An over-cooked replacement was served although I wish I had just passed on dinner. My husband's salmon was cooked properly. We waited a good 35 minutes to be served. They had forgotten about us. At breakfast there was 1 tea bag in a teapot for four, which happened again when we asked for another pot. So things are not running smoothly in the kitchen. Although there is ramp access round the side of the building, this is not practical when it's pouring with rain. Our accessible room was up three different lots of steps which presented a few problems. Overall, we enjoyed our stay as the hotel has a very relaxing atmosphere; but it's obviously let down by the points I've mentioned. Serving fish that is not fresh and still raw is unforgiveable for a chef. They should never have let it leave the kitchen.

Very pleasant hotel. Good staff. Enjoyed the swimming pool and tennis - one of the two courts could do with a bit of maintenance. Not cheap but good quality. Nice gardens - excellent topiary.
