About Cheshire
Cheshire is a largely unspoilt county on the border with North Wales. The well-preserved towns and villages feature attractive timber-framed buildings in the local black-and-white 'magpie' style of architecture. Lewis Carroll named the 'Cheshire Cat' in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland after the county. Chester has an excellent range of shops, restaurants and historic buildings including a Roman amphitheatre and well-preserved medieval walls around its Norman castle. Chester Zoo is the largest in the UK with over 5000 animals and is well worth a visit.
