Almost a thousand feet up in beautiful Shropshire hill country, this former Georgian Rectory is now an award winning Country House Hotel recommended by most of the UK's leading guide books.
In fact Pen-y-Dyffryn was awarded the Cesar Country Hotel of the Year Award 2003 by the prestigious Good Hotel Guide and Rural Retreat Hotel 2004 by the Which? Hotel Guide.
Set in 5 acres of grounds, with no passing traffic, this silver stone, creeper clad building exudes its own atmosphere of calm and tranquility.
The hotel successfully captures that elusive combination of unobtrusive hospitality, high standards of service and accommodation, first class food and healthy cooking and an easy going unpretentious style that guarantees that "away from it all" feeling. The star of it all however is the hotel's spectacular setting on the last hill in Shropshire, serenely facing the Welsh mountains to the west, providing some of the finest sunsets you are ever likely to see.
Some rooms have spa baths, some even have double spa baths, and other rooms have private patios.
All the Master Bedrooms in the main building have spa baths and the Superior Bedroom has a double jacuzzi.
There is a ground floor room suitable for infirm guests with French windows onto the hotel terrace, and the four bedrooms in the adjoining Coach House have their own private stone-walled patios if you prefer that extra touch of seclusion or like to sit outside for your early morning cup of tea. These rooms are particularly popular with dog owners.
The restaurant has a prestigious 2 Rosette Food Award from the AA, but, more importantly, the food is healthy, sourced locally as far as possible, and increasingly tends to the use of organic produce. An extensive and modestly priced wine list, majoring on New World Wines, plays its full part in the dining experience. Sample Menu - (£30.00pp)

Shropshire, on the Welsh Borderlands, was recently designated as one of England's three remaining rural idylls. Shropshire maybe one of England's quiet counties but don't be deceived- there's still plenty to see and do.
Shropshire has over 90 places to visit - historic houses and castles with beautiful gardens, the famous Ironbridge, museums and several National Trust properties nearby including Powis castle, Chirk Castle and Erddig. There is also fabulous walking, especially along the hilly Welsh borderlands and the hotel has walking leaflets going from the front door.
